Classes
PSY 437 Human Factors
Human factors studies and applies knowledge from all human sciences to improve the match between people and the world through the design of products, processes and environments. This includes knowledge of human behavior, human limitations and other characteristics. This class emphasizes human factors in high-technology systems. Specific topics include systems development, systems analysis techniques, displays, and controls.
PSY 560 Advances in Theory: Modeling Knowledge Structures
In this seminar, we will introduce and discuss current challenges, questions, research and theories related to the modeling and use of knowledge structures. The student will:
- Understand the importance of modeling structural knowledge
- Learn the most common methods for modeling structural knowledge
- Understand the use of network modeling methods in social sciences
- Understand the applications of structural knowledge methods to design and education
- Identify topics that to aid in furthering scientific understanding of structural knowledge.
Readings include book chapters that provide reviews of each topic as well as journal articles that report current research findings and methods. Since this course is a seminar, it will focus on discussions of the major themes and findings in the readings.

Human Factors in Aging (To be offered in the future)
This seminar will introduce and discuss current challenges, questions, research and theories related to the use of human-technology systems by people as they age. To learn about the changes that occur as people age and the challenges these present to older adults. The student will:
- Understand the implications of aging for the design of products, systems and environment.
- Identify new research topics that might aid in furthering scientific understanding of aging and human factors.
Readings include book chapters that provide reviews of each topic as well as journal articles that report current research findings and methods. Since this course is a seminar, it will focus on discussions of the major themes and findings in the readings.
